Employers

The Northside goes to work

Pipe foundries, steel mills, bottling lines, trucking yards, and trade shops — at least 38 employers operate inside the eight neighborhoods.

Jobs within walking distance

These neighborhoods were built around work. ACIPCO opened its pipe plant here in 1905, and the blocks around it filled with families who worked the foundries, rail yards, and furnaces. The largest employers on the Northside still run plants here today. A job a short walk or bus ride from home is worth more to a family than the same wage across the county, and it keeps paychecks circulating on the same blocks.

Northside Initiative works with employers on two things: filling skilled positions through the ARC Workforce Academy, and putting volunteer crews on neighborhood repair days. [Roster of formally partnered employers, with each employer's permission, to be confirmed before launch.]
